World Down Syndrome Day is observed every year on 21 March. It is a day to raise awareness and give people with Down syndrome, their families, and communities a stronger voice in promoting understanding, acceptance, inclusion, and equal opportunities. Tanzania has been actively participating in efforts to raise awareness since 2023. “TOGETHER WE SHINE” The theme highlighted the importance of health, happiness, physical well-being, and mental well-being for people with Down syndrome. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) provides important principles and rights that support people with disabilities, including:
• Living independently and being included in the community
• The right to education • The right to work and employment • Participation in cultural life, recreation, leisure, and sport
